The iBex is the version of the Saddlechariot that does everything I ever wanted it to. It is a safe, wheelchair accessible, one person, pony drawn vehicle.

NFU Mutual Insurance describe the original Saddlechariot as ” a glorified horse drawn vehicle but with extra safety mechanisms fitted.”
The most important Saddlechariot safety mechanism, is the ability to release the pony from the vehicle, instantly, from a safe position.
The instructions for the standard, Mark 10 Saddlechariot are, “If you are worried, step off the vehicle and pull the release cord.”

With the iBex it is rather simpler. “If you are worried, pull the release cord.” No need to get off, no need to worry. As the pony is released, the brakes come on.
With this system, Bex demonstrated the iBex for two days at the Royal Welsh Showground Spring Festival, in perfect safety, driving from her wheelchair.

Working with Organic Arts at West Town Farm, funded by Devon County Council's Aiming High project, the iBex has taken children in wheelchairs across all terrain on farm visits and down to the beach. Soft sand, deep mud, shingle are a nightmare for those pushing a wheelchair, but present no problem for the iBex.
Access is the name of the game. Access to ponies and access with ponies. Bird watching, fishing, beach barbecues, with the iBex they are all possible.

The header picture shows me driving the iBex on a test drive to prove I can drive from the river Usk in Brecon, to the Saxon hill fort at the top of the Crug in a wheelchair, on my own, in safety. And the view is marvellous.

I pretend I am test driving to discover problems, but I have to be honest, it is pure fun to drive and I haven't found anywhere it won't go.
